Tenerife isn’t just about stunning beaches and volcanic landscapes—it’s also home to some incredible wineries! It was one of several reasons I picked this beautiful spot to celebrate my 50th, including the sun, beach, and great food! If you spend even a few days here, I highly recommend you take a wine tour and tasting. We picked a wine tour through Viator (I will share my link below) that included a visit to two local wineries and lunch. It was a full day wine experience and we really enjoyed it.
First, I loved that this was a small group tour. Second, there is plenty of time to see things and taste the wines. Third, the second stop at Bodegas Monje leverages lunch to do the tastings by pairing it with the food! And finally, there is also a private cellar tour of the winery that you get to do. The views…they are incredible!
Wineries in Tenerife are not easy to get to because they are very spread out and often in the North region while most tourists stay in the South with the sun. So you need to plan to rent a car or take a tour.

About Bodegas Monje
Nestled 600 meters above sea level, Bodegas Monje is a fifth-generation family winery that combines tradition with innovation. The estate boasts panoramic ocean views, a terrace restaurant, and even a wood-fired pizza oven—a perfect excuse to return! 🍕
The winery specializes in native Canary Island grape varieties like Listán Negro, Listán Blanco, and Negramoll, producing small-batch, high-quality wines with a unique volcanic touch.
The Tenerife Wine Tour and Tasting Experience
We savored three incredible wines during our visit that were paired with an authentic Canary Islands meal, including Papas Arrugadas, which are these heavenly tasting small potatoes boiled in salt water. They come with several different mole sauces for dipping.
- Drago Blanco – A crisp, refreshing white wine with bright acidity. This was paired so well with the potatoes and mole, as well as a pumpkin soup.
- Bibiana Rosado – A semi-sweet, fruit-forward rosé (my personal favorite!). 🌸 They served a very light salad with red onions and a light dressing.
- Tradicional Tinto – A bold red, crafted from Listán Negro, showcasing the island’s rich terroir. This was paired with a beautiful custard for dessert that had a fruity center. Such a beautiful and deep red that wasn’t too dry.
Each sip highlighted the distinct flavors that volcanic soil imparts, making these wines truly one of a kind. If you are interesting in doing your own tasting experience from Bodegas Monje, you can buy and have them ship their wine.

Exploring the Wine Cellar
After lunch, we took a tour of the winery’s cellar, where tradition runs deep. The winery’s oak barrels date back to the 1950s, and they have an impressive capacity of 160,000 liters—all managed by a dedicated team of just 10 people! 🍇
It was so interesting to walk through the vineyard and go into this huge cellar that was dark and cool. There were some very old wine bottles there covered in dust and cob webs! As we walked through the cellar we were able to see the entire process for how they make their wines.
The most interesting part though was their cultural space beneath the restaurant where they host some very interesting and a bit racy wine tasting experiences. For example, they have an event called Le Seca that is a lunch with wine and a show that depicts the prohibition period. But the most racy by far is their annual “Wine and Sex” dinner, with wine tasting, and a show. Each year is a different theme. While we were there, they played a very racy video that I had to look the other way from!

Plan Your Winery Tour and Visit in Tenerife
If you are going to do a Tenerife wine tasting experience, I highly recommend the tour that we did as it is a full day with a visit to two wineries, including Casa de Vino del Tenerife. Be sure and read my review of this Tenerife wine tour and tasting experience at Casa de Vino del Tenerife. To get more tips on visiting Tenerife, check out my best of Tenerife post.
If you’re planning a trip to go wine tasting in Tenerife, Bodegas Monje is a must-visit for wine lovers. Between the stunning scenery, rich history, and unforgettable wines, this gem is well worth the stop. ❤️ We did a tour through Viator and I highly recommend that approach as the winery is not in the South where most hotels are.
